27th Annual Operation Paintbrush
September 11, 2010
On September 11, 2010, NeighborWorks® of Pueblo will celebrate its 27th Annual Operation Paintbrush. The Operation Paintbrush is a grass-roots project designed to beautify neighborhoods, preserve property values, and promote community pride by gathering together volunteers to paint the homes of Pueblo's low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners.
In 2009, more than 320 volunteers from all walks of life gathered at the NeighborWorks® of Pueblo’s office for an early morning recognition breakfast. From there, the teams dispersed to paint the homes of 30 residents who do not have the resources or capabilities to maintain their properties.
Volunteers are the backbone of this project, but NeighborWorks® of Pueblo also depends on support from various local and national foundations and businesses as well as donations of paint and supplies from Pueblo's local retail paint and hardware stores and the Paint Recyclers, LLC.
Over the past 26 years, NeighborWorks® of Pueblo has coordinated the painting of 403 homes. For every home that NeighborWorks® of Pueblo paints, we have been able to document that seven homes in the area are painted on their own – we call this the spin-off effect.
If you are interested in volunteering, providing financial support, or if you know of a low-income, elderly, or disabled individual here in Pueblo who can use a hand in getting their home painted, please contact NeighborWorks® of Pueblo's Resource Development/Operations Manager at 719-544-8078, ext. 103.
